Sony INZONE H3 | I'm not mad I'm just disappointed | Graphs + Sound Impressions

Disclaimer: My measurement rig is an industry standard clone. So it's accurate up to 3k compared to most GRAS rigs. Over 3k it's fairly off so ignore that tell I get a better calibration. When I talk about tonality and tuning it's based mostly on what I hear. Try not to get hung up on having the measurement matching the target perfectly. DO NOT USE THESE GRAPHS WITH AUTO EQ.

Sony Inzone H3 Average vs Harman 2018
Overall it's not the worst tuned gaming headset i have heard. But the biggest issue is the very inconstant treble. While there should be a dip from 4-6k on my rig, and the 8-9k peak is a bit of an artifact by like 3-5dB because of my rig. The treble over 5k is very unbalanced so much so to the point that the headset sounds very bright and brittle. It has a very tinny and metallic timbre to it. An each individual person would need to do precision peq by ear for everything thing over 5k to get it sounding decent. An nothing about the headset warrants that amount of work. Bass is also unbalanced with too little sub bass and too much mid/upper bass. Upper-mids are also too forward.

Not to mention nothing about the staging, imaging, or overall resolution is anything special. At this price point for what this is, there really is no point buying it IMO.

The issues under 3k are easy enough to EQ away (not with the terrible GEQ on the Inzone Software). But over 3k it's it just sounds like a mess, worse than it appears on the graph.

Sony Inzone H3 Average vs 3 Targets

Sony Inzone H3 25 Seating's + Average
Not terrible FR consistency, mainly because the pads are a bit small and force your ear to a similar placement. Bass leakage is very easy to get.

Sony Inzone H3 Bad Seals
As normal, as the bass leaks and rolls off the mids elevate.

Sony Inzone H3 Seal Break From Glasses
Because of the very poor seal from the cloth pad glasses break the seal and cause bad leakage.

!!IMPORTANT: Sony Inzone H3 USB Dongle Always On EQ!!
Maybe the nail in the coffin, For some reason they choose to release this product as an analog headset but include a cheap USB dongle that has an always active DSP. Meaning this dongle pretty much applies a set EQ to anything that plugs into it. It does improve the sound in some areas and makes it worse in others. But at the end of the day this is not only stupid but pointless. They offer software with pretty awful GEQ but they have a couple presets so this always active EQ should have just been a preset.

The headset is not stable on the head because of the very low clamp, the headset has pads that don't seal well, an an overall bulky and cheapish feeling build. Mixed with the stupid dongle and the lack luster sound. This thing is a big failure IMO.

If this H3 has a bit more clamp or just better pads that offered a better seal and they worked on making the treble just a bit less metallic and cheap sounding this would have been a very decent product. But as it stands this thing is just not good and I wouldn't recommend it at any price. I will not be doing a full review on it.

Other industry standard measurements for it should be coming soon and maybe they will show the treble as a bit less inconstant, in which case the tinny sound is just the nature timbre from the cheap driver.

Edit: I also forgot to mention how annoying the name of this is as now this is the 3rd or 4th headset called the H3. Like was no research done before naming this?
